"After a few easy days in Nairobi I set off on a very crowded bus to Nyeri where I changed onto a jeep set for Naro Moru, close to Mount Kenya.

It had been my hope that I would be able to meet up with a few other people I could climb the mountain with, as individuals were not allowed into the park area because of the many wild animals. But although there were about a dozen others at the farm they had either just returned from the climb or had other plans.

On the 3rd day I even walked the 7 or so miles up the track to the park gate in the hope I may meet some people making the trip, but with no luck. I did get a cup of tea from the park ranger who told me the weather had turned very bad on the mountain and that he was only letting very experienced climbers through anyway.

It was a bit of a disappointment but I had enjoyed staying at the farm, sitting round the fire in the evenings talking and listening to the stories of the other travellers." - MH
