Built in the beatiful city of Ávila in the 17th century it is situated on the site where St Teresa is believed to have been born.

"I thought the idea of putting the gutters in the middle of the road, instead of at the sides, was a good one, at least from a pedestrians point of view in wet weather.

The old city of Antigua that was about one hours bus ride away, I was hoping would not only be a more pleasant place to stay, but also have more of interest, I was not to be disappointed. Despite being hit many times over the years by earthquakes, I found its quiet streets, and numerous attractive old colonial buildings still remaining, gave the city an air of old world charm, that was not to be found in Guatemala City. I was also able to find in Antigua one of the best hotels I was to stay in during this Central American journey." - MH
