"Painting I made of one of the older side streets. Again I had to put up with a large crowd around me, but on this occasion a few older people stopped the children blocking my view.
Although my first impression of Addis was of an unplanned mess of poorly built western style buildings, rising amongst the local shanty’s, which for a large part I still think it is, I did find that after a few days of walking around, that the city had a kind of charm, and that I was actually growing to like the place.
Adane Deme met me a number of times during the 6 days I spent in the city, and although most of the trips I had with him involved stops while he made visits connected with his shoe business, it did give me the chance to see many different parts of the city." - MH
