"I had the one night in Istanbul then caught a midday luxury coach up to Ankara. It took 6 hours and cost £5, transport, like accommodation, I found cheap in Turkey.

I left the hotel early next morning in the hope that I could see as much as I could of the city before it got too hot. I was pleased to find that I had stayed close to the old part of the town, a walled area on top of a hill, full of narrow hilly streets and pleanty of interest for sketching.

The rest of Ankara, the more modern part built after the city became the capital in 1923, I did not find very exciting and after a quick look round I was happy to catch a late afternoon bus on to Kırşehir." - MH
