"Dumbulla's main attraction was this famous cave temple, built in the 1st century BC. The cave contained 150 statues of Buddha and was also decorated with coloured frescoes showing scenes from Buddha's life. As taking photos in this cave was forbidden I decided to paint this picture instead. My painting caused so much interest amongst the attendants, that, on finishing the picture, they allowed me to also take a quick photo." - MH
