Shela is a village about 3.2 km south of Lamu Town.

"Shela, about a 2 mile walk along the beach from Lamu, was an attractive village in spite having lost its prosperity. Behind the only street were the ruins of what had been many large buildings, including two mosques, a sign of the once better days during the last century." - MH
