"The main reason we for stopping in Bagon had been to visit this unusual temple above. Built in 1476, it stands 30 metres tall and has 4 sitting Buddhas placed back to back round a large square pillar. Though reaching it in the heat had left me pretty shattered, I soon started to feel it had been worth the effort. As well as being every bit as interesting as my guide book had indicated, I was able to sit in the shade of a large tree and recover while painting what I felt was this attractive view. When I completed the picture a monk that had been watching invited me back with him to the nearby monastery for some tea, an invitation I was pleased to accept.
Interesting as Bagan was, after two full days it was back to the road for a long bus ride upto Kalaw, another old hill station, then on to Inle Lake." - MH
