The Great Wall spans over 3,000 miles from Shanhaiguan west into the Gansu province. It was built by Chinese emperors using forced labour to protect their territory and took centuries to complete.

"Started over 2000 years ago, the major part of its 3,700 mile length was not completed 'till the 14th century, during the Ming Dynasty. This restored section at the Badaling Pass, about 50 miles north of Peking, I visited on a day trip in 1974. The painting above was painted from the end of the restored section." - MH
