Porlock Weir is a small settlement around the harbour about 11/2 miles west of Porlock.

As early as 86 AD the port was visited by the Danes and in 1052 it is reported that the area was plundered when Harold Golwinson came from Ireland with 9 ships.

Gibralter Cottages, from the 17th century, are Grade 2 listed.
