This ancient Roman spa city was founded around 190 B.C.

"At Denizli I changed to a dolmus for the last 12 miles on to Pamukkale. A ride that involved twice making a tour of the town, the driver touting for extra passengers before finally setting off in the right direction, nearly an hour after I had boarded.

Pamukkale, an area of hot springs and health giving waters, was first developed by the Romans who built the town of Hierapolis, complete with the usual theatre and bath houses, plus many other buildings, all to be seen now in various states of ruin." - MH
