"...I thought I would take up the offer made to me by the American I had met on the bus to Managua,  that if I got the chance, I could stay at his home in Tala on the east coast for a few days. The next morning I rose early to catch the 6 am bus for San Pedro. It was thick mist as we left the bus station near my hotel, but as we climbed up out of the valley the skies cleared and I was able to look back down onto the white clouds covering the city, a rather strange sight. The journey, that took about 4 hours, was first over a high pass with scenery more reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, but as we descended into the lowlands the tree cover gave way to more open farmland and a succession of small villages.

Though I only spent a few hours in this, the country’s second city and main business and commercial centre, my impressions were that it was a much more prosperous and pleasant place than Tegucigalpa" - MH
