"For me the town of Shahara had few buildings of any real interest or merit, it was only the town's bleak almost unique location which gave it its attraction.

This town, which must have been as near impregnable as any place could be, played an important part in the resistance of the Ottoman Turks in the 16th and 17th centuries. It seemed that even with attacks from the air, the tribes of people of this area were still prepared to put up a fight." - MH
