"After spending the rest of my first day in Arica looking round, I decided the next morning I would take a local bus up to Poconchile, a small town about 20 miles up the fertile Lluta valley that ran inland from Arica. As the bus I caught did not return 'till mid afternoon, I was able to spend about 5 hours there and paint the picture above, have a good meal in a local restaurant, then have an enjoyable walk part of the way back down the road, 'till the bus came along." - MH
