Constructed in the 18th century and dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael, this important historical cathedral is decorated with beautiful frescoes inside.

"One of the few attractive corners I found in the city.

The town of Tela had a population of around 68,000, and was the centre for the export of bananas and other tropical fruits that were grown in the surrounding area. Much of the town and port had been built, and was run by, the Standard US Fruit Company, which accounted for the neat rows of houses to be seen in its residential streets" - MH

Standard Fruit Company became Standard Fruit & Steamship Company in 1926. It was sold in 1968 to a company owning James Dole's Hawaiian Pineapple Company, and now has worldwide recognition as Dole Food Company.
