"At Guaqui I stayed in what had to be the worst hotel of the whole trip. But the interesting area around that end of the lake, that I found the next day, well made up for it, and in the evening I took the ferry for the overnight crossing of the lake to Puno in Peru. The ferry, an interesting old ship built in Hull, UK, in 1920 and taken up in bits, was in perfect condition; it was like going back 50 years. I had a comfortable cabin and a good meal in the elegant first class dining room, a real little bit of luxury after the discomfort of the previous night." - MH
