"It was an enjoyable walk out to the village along the causeway in the late afternoon, the surrounding mountains changing colour as the sun slowly began to set. The pension turned out to be one of the most comfortable on the trip, a large clean and well furnished room with a hot shower and good lighting, it cost me £2 a night. The only problem with being on the island was there was no place for a meal and I had to walk the 1 1/2 miles back into Egirdir to eat. I was up early the next morning to explore the village and make a painting, then returned to Egrirdir, where, after making another painting, I caught the 3pm bus on to Antalya. While painting this picture in the village on the island, children that were on their way to a school in the next street stopped to watch me. When it got time for the school to start the teacher came to see what had happened to his pupils. On seeing me he also stopped to watch, and I had a teacher and about 15 kids standing round me. But the teacher saw to it that they were all well behaved and it was an interesting experience". - MH
