"This view of a fish stall was painted from the window of my hotel in Maskeliya.

On leaving the Fairlawn Estate at around midday, when the morning's heavy rains had finally started to ease, I was given a lift into Upcot, where, after a short wait I continued on by bus the 10 miles to Maskeliya, the town closest to Adams Peak. Like the journey to Upcot two days before, it was a slow ride along a narrow winding road and took the best part of an hour. On reaching Maskeliya I soon found a small hotel and just got settled in when the rain started in earnest again, A bit frustrating, for although the town was nothing special, it was set on the edge of a beautiful lake, which I felt would have been nice to paint. Instead I had to be content with painting the view above." - MH
