Wellington Arch stands between the corners of Hyde Park and Green Park and is Grade I listed. In 1846 a statue of the Duke of Wellington astride a horse was put in position on top of the arch. It was very unpopular with all but Wellington himself and so it remained in place until the arch was moved a short distance in 1885. In 1912 a new sculpture depicting Nike the goddess of victory at the helm of a four horse chariot was installed, it is the largest bronze sculpture in Europe.
